The Wind of My Soul

Recently, I have rekindled my love for Yusuf/Cat Stevens that started 48 years ago. Sometimes, when you look back at your past from where you are now, you can reflect on the experience much differently. For me, I can see why I was attracted to him; other than he looked like a Greek god, his songs were deep and spiritual. My eleven-year-old self was not consciously aware of the meaning, but she was attracted to the mystery of it all. I see now that his songs depicted his spiritual journey. He was searching for deeper meaning, and he found it in the Koran. I love that so much.

When I listen to his songs, they can touch that part of my soul that connects me to spirit. Especially the song “The Wind,” which clearly describes for me the Divine Indwelling, which I believe is in everyone.

I listen to the wind, to the wind of my soul

Where I'll end up, well, I think only God really knows

I've sat upon the setting sun

But never, never, never, never

I never wanted water once

No never, never, never

I listen to my words but they fall far below

I let my music take me where my heart wants to go

I swam upon the Devil's lake

But never, never, never, never

I'll never make the same mistake

No, never, never, never

The wind of my soul is telling me to paint again. I want to listen. I know it’s where my heart wants to go.
