ACIM Lesson 195

Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

There was a time when I believed gratitude meant looking around and realizing I had more than someone else. Better health. More beauty. Fewer hardships. It seemed like the appropriate response was to feel thankful for my circumstances.

A Course in Miracles gently dismantles that way of thinking.

Love never compares. The moment I measure my life against another's, I've stepped outside the awareness of our shared wholeness. Gratitude born from comparison isn't really gratitude at all. It quietly depends on someone else having less.

Instead, today's lesson invites something far deeper.

I can be grateful because nothing real has ever been taken from any of us. Beneath our different stories, we all share the same inheritance: the Love of God.

When I remember that, my heart naturally expands. I no longer want blessings that belong only to me. I want peace that belongs to everyone. I want healing that excludes no one. I want freedom that leaves no brother behind.

I've noticed that on the days I feel the most grateful, it isn't because everything has gone well. It's because, even in the middle of ordinary life, I've remembered our shared belonging.

Perhaps gratitude isn't something we manufacture after life improves.

Perhaps gratitude is simply what remains when comparison falls away.

Today I'll practice walking gently through the world, letting everyone I meet belong inside my prayer.

Love is the way I walk in gratitude.

A Listening Practice

If it feels natural, you might let this idea continue beyond the words.

Two musical reflections accompany this lesson—
each offering a different way of entering the same truth.

A grounded chant, steady and spacious,
like a quiet return within.

A devotional song,
carrying the feeling of being held in what has never changed.

You might listen to one… or both…
not to understand,
but to let the truth be felt.

There is nothing to achieve here.
Only a willingness to rest…
and allow the remembrance to deepen.
