ACIM Lesson 284
I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt.
Some thoughts seem to have a life of their own. They return uninvited, carrying memories, fears, regrets, or sorrow. We may try to reason with them, push them away, or convince ourselves we should have moved beyond them by now.
Today's lesson offers another possibility.
I can elect to change all thoughts that hurt.
This is not a demand to deny our pain or pretend we have already found peace. The Course describes a gradual awakening. At first, we simply say the words. We repeat them, perhaps with reservations. Slowly, we become willing to consider that another way of seeing is possible.
We need not understand everything that has happened or know how the story will unfold. We can bring even our uncertainty into the presence of Love.
Perhaps the miracle begins in that small willingness.
The thoughts may still arise. The circumstances may remain unchanged. But we can begin to loosen our grip on the interpretations that deepen our suffering.
Today, I need not force myself into peace. I can simply become willing to see again, trusting that God's love is present even here.
A Listening Practice
Before entering the silence, you may wish to listen to today’s Prayer Song.
Let the words and music be with you for a while. There is nothing to understand and nothing you need to accomplish.
When the music ends, allow the quiet to remain.
Rest with the lesson.
Listen.
