ACIM Lesson 133
I will not value what is valueless.
There comes a point in life when the promises of the world begin to lose their shine. Not because beauty disappears, but because we finally see that no possession, achievement, relationship, or identity can carry the weight of our longing. We were asking temporary things to give us eternal peace.
This lesson feels less like renunciation and more like awakening.
The Course is not asking us to reject the world in bitterness. It is gently teaching us to stop confusing substitutes for truth. The ego says, “If I just get this one thing, then I’ll finally feel whole.” But eventually, through heartbreak, success, aging, loss, and even accomplishment, we begin to realize that nothing outside us can stabilize the soul.
Real value does not fade.
Love remains.
Mercy remains.
Presence remains.
The quiet inner knowing of God remains.
As Marianne Williamson has said, much of this wisdom comes simply from having lived long enough to see through the illusion. We stop grasping because we begin to recognize what truly nourishes us.
And strangely, when we loosen our grip on what cannot satisfy, joy arrives more easily.
Heaven is approached with empty hands.
A Listening Practice
If it feels natural, you might let this idea continue beyond the words.
Two musical reflections accompany this lesson—
each offering a different way of entering the same truth.
A grounded chant, steady and spacious,
like a quiet return within.
A devotional song,
carrying the feeling of being held in what has never changed.
You might listen to one… or both…
not to understand,
but to let the truth be felt.
There is nothing to achieve here.
Only a willingness to rest…
and allow the remembrance to deepen.

May this be a gentle remembering.
