ACIM Lesson 188

The peace of God is shining in me now.

Lesson 188 feels less like an instruction and more like a gentle unveiling.

The Course tells us that enlightenment is not something we achieve someday. It is simply the recognition of what has never left us.

For so much of my life, I searched for peace as though it lived somewhere outside me—in better circumstances, clearer answers, healthier days, or a future where everything finally settled down. Yet every search carried the hidden assumption that something essential was missing.

This lesson quietly overturns that belief.

"The peace of God is shining in me now."

Not tomorrow.
Not after I heal.
Not after I become more spiritual.

Now.

The light has never departed because it is what we are. Our practice is not to manufacture it but to stop covering our eyes.

When we become still enough to remember that peace, it naturally extends beyond us. Our words soften. Our judgments loosen. Our presence becomes a blessing before we ever speak.

Perhaps this is what the world most needs—not more people striving for peace, but more people remembering they already carry it.

Today I will stop searching for what has never been absent.

I will simply let the peace of God shine.

A Listening Practice

If it feels natural, you might let this idea continue beyond the words.

Two musical reflections accompany this lesson—
each offering a different way of entering the same truth.

A grounded chant, steady and spacious,
like a quiet return within.

A devotional song,
carrying the feeling of being held in what has never changed.

You might listen to one… or both…
not to understand,
but to let the truth be felt.

There is nothing to achieve here.
Only a willingness to rest…
and allow the remembrance to deepen.
