ACIM Lesson 262

Let me perceive no differences today.

Yesterday’s lesson described the body as a fence we imagine separating one part of God’s Son from another. Today’s lesson asks us not to mistake those fences for the truth.

We do perceive differences. We see different bodies, cultures, beliefs, histories, political convictions, and ways of behaving. Some differences delight us. Others frighten or anger us. Some actions must be resisted, and some situations require firm boundaries. Seeing our spiritual unity does not mean abandoning discernment or pretending that every choice is equally loving.

It means refusing to believe that anyone’s behavior tells the whole truth about who they are.

This is where the lesson becomes difficult. It is easier to recognize our shared humanity in those we understand than in someone whose beliefs or actions seem completely opposed to our own. Yet the Course asks us to look beneath every name, role, body, and story—to the one Life that God created.

We may not be able to remain in that awareness for long. Perhaps today we glimpse it only for a moment. But we do not have to force ourselves into a unity we cannot yet feel. We can begin with willingness:

Father, I do not know how to see this person without differences. Help me look beyond what fear has made and remember what You created.

Each time we become willing to look again, the journey from the head to the heart continues. Beneath all the differences we perceive, no one is a stranger to God—and no one is truly separate from us.

A Listening Practice

Before entering the silence, you may wish to listen to today’s Prayer Song.

Let the words and music be with you for a while. There is nothing to understand and nothing you need to accomplish.

When the music ends, allow the quiet to remain.

Rest with the lesson.

Listen.
