ACIM Lesson 263

My holy vision sees all things as pure.

This lesson asks me to notice not only what I am looking at, but what within me is doing the looking.

The ego’s vision searches for what is wrong. It sorts the world into guilty and innocent, acceptable and unacceptable, safe and threatening. It sees a person’s fear, anger, confusion, or harmful behavior and makes that appearance the whole truth about them.

Holy vision does not deny what is happening. It does not ask me to pretend that pain is harmless, that boundaries are unnecessary, or that every action is loving. It asks me to look more deeply—to remember that no appearance can alter what God created.

Beneath the fear is innocence. Beneath the defenses is a call for love. Beneath everything I have judged in another—and everything I have judged in myself—is the life God gave and has never withdrawn.

This feels especially important when I turn that vision toward myself. I can so easily see fatigue, anger, limitation, or spiritual struggle and decide that something has gone wrong in me. Yet holy vision does not see a failed spiritual student. It sees someone still held within the purity of God’s creation, even when she cannot feel it.

Perhaps purity is not something I must achieve. Perhaps it is what remains when judgment no longer tells me what I am seeing.

Today I can pause before believing the first interpretation my mind offers. I can ask:

Am I looking through fear, or through love?

I do not have to manufacture holy vision. I need only become willing for another way of seeing.

My holy vision sees all things as pure.

A Listening Practice

Before entering the silence, you may wish to listen to today’s Prayer Song.

Let the words and music be with you for a while. There is nothing to understand and nothing you need to accomplish.

When the music ends, allow the quiet to remain.

Rest with the lesson.

Listen.
