This lesson asks me to notice an impossible bargain I sometimes try to make: I want the peace of God while continuing to condemn someone God loves. Yet the judgment I direct toward another does not remain with them. It closes something within me. The sword I hold above another’s head is the one beneath which I am standing.

This does not mean that love requires approval, affection, or continued closeness. Love may take the form of a boundary, an honest no, or the decision to step away. I do not have to pretend that harmful behavior is harmless. But I can refuse to make another person unworthy of love. I can choose not to use their actions as a reason to exile them from my heart.

Today I do not need to manufacture a loving feeling. I need only become willing to lay down condemnation. Each person I release from judgment releases me as well. No one is left outside of Love—and neither am I.
