ACIM Lesson 252
The Son of God is my Identity.
This lesson makes a claim so vast that the mind can scarcely take it in: “The Son of God is my Identity.”
The ego may hear those words as a claim of specialness. Yet they mean exactly the opposite. I am not the Son of God more than anyone else, and I am not the Son of God less than anyone else. This identity belongs to all of us.
I have learned to identify myself through the conditions of my life—my body, my history, my abilities, my limitations, my mistakes, and the roles I have played. These may describe something about my experience here, but they do not tell me what I am.
The holiness within me is beyond anything I can presently imagine. I do not have to manufacture it, earn it, or convince myself that it is there. God already knows my true identity. My prayer is simply that He reveal it to me.
Perhaps I will not recognize it through a sudden blaze of light, but through the quiet certainty the lesson describes: a peace beneath my thoughts, a love that excludes no one, and a growing unwillingness to judge myself or another as anything less than holy.
Today I do not need to understand what the Son of God is. I need only become willing to release the identities I made and let God remind me of the one He gave me.
A Listening Practice
Before entering the silence, you may wish to listen to today’s Prayer Song.
Let the words and music be with you for a while. There is nothing to understand and nothing you need to accomplish.
When the music ends, allow the quiet to remain.
Rest with the lesson.
Listen.
