ACIM Lesson 257
Let me remember what my purpose is.
We often think of purpose as something we must discover: the particular work we were born to do or the contribution we are meant to make. This lesson offers a simpler answer. Our purpose is forgiveness—the willingness to release the thoughts that separate us from love.
When I forget that purpose, my mind becomes divided. I may try to prove myself, protect myself, judge another, or force an outcome. My actions then arise from conflicting goals, and I lose my peace.
Remembering my purpose does not necessarily tell me what activity to choose. It tells me how to meet whatever is before me. I can bring love to a conversation, gentleness to my body, mercy to another person, or forgiveness to a thought that has disturbed me. Even resting can serve my purpose when it is chosen without guilt or self-attack.
I do not have to repair the whole world today. I am asked only to notice where love appears to be missing and allow my mind to choose again. In that moment, thought and action begin to move together. The conflict softens, and I remember the peace God wills for me.
A Listening Practice
Before entering the silence, you may wish to listen to today’s Prayer Song.
Let the words and music be with you for a while. There is nothing to understand and nothing you need to accomplish.
When the music ends, allow the quiet to remain.
Rest with the lesson.
Listen.
