ACIM Lesson 65
My only function is the one God gave me.
This morning’s lesson from A Course in Miracles feels both simple and radical:
My only function is the one God gave me.
The world teaches us to figure out what we want and go after it.
Build a life.
Build an identity.
Prove something.
But the Course quietly suggests something entirely different.
What if the tension we feel in life comes from trying to live with two functions at once?
One shaped by the world’s goals, and another — quieter one — that simply wants to extend love.
When I sit with this lesson, I notice how many small goals fill my mind.
Things to accomplish.
Things to fix.
Things to control.
The practice today is not to force those thoughts away, but simply to notice them and gently set them down.
And then begin again.
My only function is the one God gave me.
I want no other, and I have no other.
In that willingness, something inside relaxes.
Peace doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from remembering why we’re really here.
A Listening Practice
If it feels natural, you might let this idea continue beyond the words.
Two musical reflections accompany this lesson—
each offering a different way of entering the same truth.
A grounded chant, steady and spacious,
like a quiet return within.
A devotional song,
carrying the feeling of being held in what has never changed.
You might listen to one… or both…
not to understand,
but to let the truth be felt.
There is nothing to achieve here.
Only a willingness to rest…
and allow the remembrance to deepen.
